The Grace Center Food Pantry plans to stay open during normal hours. We are temporarily changing our operating procedures to limit person to person exposure. Please refer to our Facebook page for more details:
The Grace Center and the Food Pantry are alive and well. It's been 3 1/2 years since we re-opened, can you believe that? Time flies. Speaking of time, sometimes we forget that we need to take time out and update the website. Again, for 2019, we have a great board of directors and fantastic volunteers. Still no newsletter yet but when it does happen it will probably be through email and the website. Our board meetings are on the first Monday of the month at the Harrodsburg United Methodist Church in the basement at the back of the building. A 100% volunteer organization, serving Indian Creek, Clear Creek and Polk townships in Southern Monroe County in Indiana. Best wishes for a prosperous new year.
Thanks to all those that came out to our first annual Grace Center meeting. We were able to give an update on Grace Center and tell about the many great things that have happened in the last year. We look forward to an even greater year. Thanks to all the volunteers that make it all happen.
It's been a while since we last updated the website but that didn't mean we didn't keep busy. The pantry re-opened softly on June 18th at the new location next to the Clear Creek Trustee's office on Old South 37 in Harrodsburg. That means its been about 8 months since we closed. A lot of people put a tremendous amount of work to make the re-opening a reality. Join us on Thursday July 16 for our formal Grand Re-opening Celebration from 3 to 7pm. Come see the new place and meet the board members and volunteers.
A big thanks to all that came out to the public information meeting tonight. We hope we answered all your questions as we proceed forward to reopening the pantry. Thanks to the Hoosier Hills Food Bank and The Herald Times for coming out as well. Lots of enthusiasm in the room which is so encouraging. Hope to have more news for you very soon.
Grace Center Food Pantry Public Informational Meeting
Monday, February 2nd, 2015 - 7:00PM - 8:00PM - Harrodsburg Community Center
Please join us at this special meeting to hear news about the planned restart of Grace Center, a local food pantry serving Clear Creek, Indian Creek and Polk Townships. Board members and volunteers will share the history and current vision for the food pantry, discuss plans for the pantry restart and share needs in order to make the pantry restart a reality. We will end with a question and answer period.
If you share the desire to see Grace Center back in operation, please join us for this discussion. We need a number of interested people to respond to the needs of local residents who struggle with food instability. Your ideas, time and talent are most welcome! We look forward to seeing you on Monday, February 2nd at 7:00PM at the Harrodsburg Community Center.
Here is a brief update on the Grace Center Food Pantry. The pantry did close in October 2014 due to the sale of the building where it was located. The loss of the pantry did not go unnoticed and some concerned community members began meeting with the goal to open the pantry again. The biggest obstacle is finding a building with enough room to properly house the pantry. In a rural community there are few options. The second obstacle is filling the various board member positions. A complete board is needed to continue pantry operations.
The good news is that some of these issues are being resolved. We hope to have more information soon with more details. Your continued patience is appreciated. Stay tuned.
We offer a place where the people of Clear Creek, Indian Creek, and Polk Townships (Harrodsburg, Kirksville, Smithville) of Monroe County Indiana can gather to strengthen community by providing programs that create a balance between social, recreational, and cultural activities as well as supporting critical social service needs. We place a special emphasis on providing and distributing food to those in need. We strive to build a community space that feels welcoming, comfortable, safe and accessible to all.
